Breast Reduction in Oklahoma City

Women, as well as teen girls, may struggle with breasts that are too large for their frame and require breast reduction surgery.

It's true that many breast surgeries are cosmetic in nature. Breast reduction offers both cosmetic and therapeutic benefits. Along with breast reshaping, it can reduce discomfort and body image issues caused by large breast size.

Reducing Breast Size

A breast reduction is performed to reduce the size of large breasts, while lifting the breasts to a more youthful position. While this has a cosmetic improvement, the surgery can also achieve improved health for patients and relief from:

  • back and neck pain
  • inframammary fold infections
  • grooves in the shoulders from bra straps

During your consultation with Dr. Nuveen he will examine your condition and ask you about your aesthetic goals. Based on this consultation, he will be able to craft a unique breast reduction treatment plan for you. He will explain the steps of the surgery and how he will remove excess fat and tissues to shape and lift your breasts into a more manageable size and appearance.

Common Questions About Breast Reduction

How long will my surgery last?

Breast reduction surgery is usually completed in under four hours. For most breast reductions, Dr. Nuveen's anesthesiologist will administer a general anesthetic. This will greatly improve your comfort and help you to sleep through the procedure.

What are the steps for the surgery?

To begin your breast reduction surgery, Dr. Nuveen will make an incision around the nipple areola, extending down to and across the breast crease. At this point, he will likely use liposuction to remove some of the excess fat. To do so, he will insert a thin tube called a cannula, which is attached to a vacuum-like device. This device will remove the fat from localized area. Next, Dr. Nuveen will use a scalpel to separate and remove excess tissues from the breasts.

Once he has achieved optimal toning of the breasts, Dr. Nuveen will place the nipple at a higher location and close the incisions with sutures. A surgical dressing and tape will be applied. A compression garment will also be placed around your breasts. This will be worn for several weeks and promote the healing of your breasts.

What will I feel like after surgery?

Following your surgery, you may still be groggy from the anesthesia and will need a ride home. You should also arrange for help around the home for several days. Initial swelling is possible, and if you limit your movement, this should be minimal. Any discomfort you feel may be managed with medication prescribed by Dr. Nuveen.

Another important factor in the course of healing is how well you follow the instructions that are given to you by Dr. Nuveen. You will receive verbal instructions as well as written instructions after surgery and it is imperative that you follow those instructions. We set those guidelines for you to promote your healing process and to prevent the occurrence of any complications that can interfere with your recovery.

It is crucial that you recognize that you are a partner in this process and have a responsibility to follow instructions carefully. The instructions we give you are designed to give you the best opportunity for healing without delay or surprise.

What are the steps for aftercare?

Dr. Nuveen will ask you to begin walking one day after surgery, but your activity will need to be limited. For the first two weeks, you will not be very active, but can begin incorporating light exercise after this time. About six weeks after surgery, you may be able to stop wearing the compression garment. At this time, you can likely return to most of your normal routine, including exercise, with caution.

Patients who have chosen Dr. Nuveen for breast reduction, as well as other cosmetic and reconstructive surgeries, have given him a more than 98% satisfaction rate.
