Skin Renewing Chemical Peels
A chemical peel is appropriate for patients of many ages and those with varying types of skin and issues they wish to correct. Dr. Nuveen offers chemical peels with both a light and deep solution, which can be altered to fit an individual's needs. Patients often elect to have a chemical peel to correct issues like:
- fine lines and wrinkles
- scarring
- sun damage
- precancerous growths
- blemishes
- pigmentation issues
- uneven skin tone or texture
Depending on your skin type, as well as the issues your skin presents, Dr. Nuveen will be able to recommend an appropriate chemical peel treatment. He will explain the treatment process to you. It is important that you understand that there is a healing period after a chemical peel where your skin may be visibly flaking. This will be more pronounced after a deep chemical peel.
Chemical Peel FAQ
Will I need an anesthetic for my chemical peel?
No, you will not need an anesthetic for your chemical peel. Most patients report that the sensation from a chemical peel resembles a tingling, or even a light stinging when the solution is first applied. This will dissipate after a short time, however.
How is the chemical peel applied?
Prior to your treatment, your skin will be cleansed. The chemical peel solution will then be applied to your face, neck, chest and/or hands. It will be left on your skin for a specific amount of time, often around 15 minutes, but up to an hour. Your face will then be cleansed. In the case of a deep chemical peel, an ointment may be administered to your skin at the treatment site.
How will I feel after my chemical peel?
After your chemical peel, your skin will likely feel tender. You may experience some redness of the skin. After a couple of days, your skin will begin its rejuvenation process. This means the old damaged skin cells will begin to flake off as new skin cells appear.
How will I care for my skin after a chemical peel?
Your skin will be extremely sensitive after your chemical peel so it is important that you avoid prolonged sun exposure and the use of harsh skin care products. You may need to apply an ointment to your skin as you heal. You should also apply a daily moisturizer with SPF that will help shield your sensitive skin.
When will I be able to experience the benefits of my chemical peel?
About one week after your chemical peel, you will be able to see much of the fresh, clear skin. While healing will be longer after a deep chemical peel, after a couple of weeks your skin should be mostly normalized and healthy.
