How long will the surgery take to complete?

While the corrective breast augmentation can vary in procedure time, most of the procedures can be completed in under two hours. In most cases, you will be given a local anesthetic with sedation, which will help you sleep through the surgery.

How are the implants replaced?

If you are having your previous breast implants removed, Dr. Nuveen will most likely use the incision sites originally used for your breast augmentation (often the armpit, breast crease or around the nipple areola). Once he has accessed the implant, he will remove it. After the health of the surrounding breast tissue has been checked, he will then insert the new implant. Dr. Nuveen will close the incisions and cover them with surgical dressings.

How are breast implants corrected?

In cases where a breast implant has bottomed out or excessive scar tissue has formed around the implant, Dr. Nuveen will need to perform a corrective surgery of the breast itself. For bottoming out, tissues from your own breast may be sutured beneath the implant to support it. To correct capsular contracture, Dr. Nuveen will need to score and/or separate the scar tissue from the implant.

How will I feel after corrective breast augmentation?

For many patients, your recovery time will be similar to your initial breast augmentation recovery time. You may feel some discomfort and swelling at first, but swelling will dissipate within a couple of weeks. Dr. Nuveen may prescribe medication to help you manage discomfort. Your activity will need to be minimal for a day or two, but you should be back to your normal routine within a week or so. Any exercise, however, will need to be started with caution.
