Earlobe Repair in Oklahoma City

Whether it is from trauma or wearing heavy earrings, many people experience a stretched or torn earlobe that requires earlobe repair surgery to correct.

Correcting a Torn or Stretched Earlobe

While the allure of large, dangling earrings can be hard to resist, one of the side effects of this type of jewelry is both the weight, and potential for trauma to the ear.

Even with caution, a large earring can stretch an earlobe or become caught on something, causing an unsightly and painful tear.

Fortunately, earlobe repair can provide:

  • A normal-looking earlobe
  • Ability to wear earrings comfortably

In your consultation with Dr. Nuveen, he will ask you about the state of your earlobes, the cause of the damage and your goals for after the repair. Based on his examination of the earlobes, Dr. Nuveen will be able to craft a reparative surgical plan. You should be aware that you will not be able to wear earrings again immediately following surgery.

Common Questions About Earlobe Repair

Will I need a sedative for earlobe repair?

In many cases, you will not need a sedative for earlobe repair, though you may request one if you feel it is necessary. The procedure takes less than an hour to complete and you will be given a local anesthetic, which will improve your comfort for the surgery.

How does Dr. Nuveen perform earlobe repair?

To fix a torn or stretched earlobe, Dr. Nuveen will make an incision along the stretched or torn skin, where the ear was pierced. This will allow him to have a clean edge to work with. He will then use the clean edges and suture them back together, closing the tear and tightening the lobe. A bandage will then be applied.

How will I feel after earlobe repair?

After your earlobe repair, it is not uncommon to experience some swelling of the lobe, but this will fade within a few days. If you experience any discomfort, an over the counter pain medication will usually help manage it. While you may want to take a couple of days off from work, earlobe repair should not dramatically affect your normal routine.

When can I wear earrings again?

Though you may be able to wear clip-on earrings with caution within a few weeks of your earlobe repair, you will need to wait at least three months for your earlobe to heal after surgery to have it repierced. Dr. Nuveen will be able to advise you on when you should be able to wear traditional earrings.

What can I do to prevent a torn or stretched earlobe?

To prevent a recurrence of this issue, you should wear small earrings, like studs, which are light and less likely to catch on other objects. If you must wear larger earrings, do it on rare occasions and take care when moving or when around small children, who may be tempted to play with the earrings.
