Male Breast Reduction in Oklahoma City
Gynecomastia Correction
Men who struggle with a feminine-appearing chest or gynecomastia can choose to undergo male breast reduction for correction. After male breast reduction with Dr. Nuveen, the patient has a chest that is more contoured and masculine.
This is one of the most popular procedures for men that we perform in our Oklahoma City cosmetic surgery practice.
Creating a More Masculine Chest
Dr. Nuveen performs male breast reduction on men, as well as some adolescent boys, to correct gynecomastia. This condition, which results in a feminine-looking chest can trouble men and cause them to hide their bodies as well as experience self-esteem issues. If the condition cannot be tied to lifestyle choices or other external causes, Dr. Nuveen may recommend surgery to correct the issue.
Candidates for male breast reduction are:
- Bothered by a feminine-looking chest
- Realistic about the risks and benefits of surgery
- Healthy, non-smokers
When you meet with Dr. Nuveen for your consultation about male breast reduction in the Lawton area, he will examine your upper body and help you determine if male breast reduction is suitable for you. Dr. Nuveen will also outline what you can expect from surgery, recovery and the results.
Common Questions About Male Breast Reduction
How long will the surgery last?
Your male breast reduction will take at least one hour to complete. During this time, you will be given a local anesthetic with sedation, which will allow you to sleep comfortably through the surgery. In some cases, a general anesthetic may be used instead.
How is the procedure performed?
Dr. Nuveen will begin your male breast reduction by making an incision either around the nipple areola or in the underarm. Atthis point he will use a scalpel to remove any excess breast tissue that is present. Next, Dr. Nuveen may use a thin tube called a cannula to remove localized fat deposits, further sculpting a more masculine chest. When he has achieved the desired look, Dr. Nuveen will close the incisions with sutures and apply a surgical dressing. A compression garment will also likely be applied.
How will I feel after male breast reduction?
Following your surgery, you will likely feel a bit groggy and will need transportation, as well as help around the home for a few days. Your activity may be limited, but you will be asked to walk shortly after surgery. It is not uncommon to experience some swelling or discomfort, but these are short-lived. Dr. Nuveen may prescribe medication to help manage discomfort. Swelling should dissipate within two weeks and can be managed by the application of an ice pack.
When can I resume my normal routine?
About two weeks after surgery, you should be able to begin incorporating aspects of your routine, with caution. Light exercise is possible and can be increased in the coming weeks. You may, however, be required to wear the compression garment for several weeks.
After undergoing a successful male breast reduction surgery, men are often more apt to take their shirts off in public places, like a pool, and have renewed self-confidence. As long as a healthy lifestyle and diet are maintained, the results of a male breast reduction should be long lasting.
