Dr. Nuveen has spent a large majority of his career in pursuit of training, education, and experience with the masters of nasal surgery in order to provide the best care to his patients. He has successfully performed hundreds of rhinoplasty (nose reshaping) procedures in which the care and precision in which he does nasal surgery is paramount.

Nasal surgery is one of the most important facial surgery procedures. Your nose plays two different, highly important roles:

• Aesthetics: your nose is a highly visible, front-and-center facial feature
• Function: nasal breathing and ability to critical for quality of life

One role cannot be exchanged for the other. Great care must be taken to maintain the functional role while improving the aesthetic role.

Verification of optimal medical health and psychological stability is often obtained at the discretion of the physician prior to consideration of patients for cosmetic surgery from primary physicians or specialists.

People have many reasons for considering rhinoplasty. Most are concerned about the size or shape of their nose, while for others the goal is to correct breathing problems. Dr. Nuveen may perform rhinoplasty to address cosmetic concerns such as: large nose, small nose, crooked nose, bumpy nose, nasal breathing difficulty, and more.

If you're bothered by the size of your nose, remember that it may appear large or small only in relation to other features. For example, a person with a weak chin may appear to have a large nose. Conversely, a person with a large nose may appear to have a weak chin. Rhinoplasty is intended to bring these features into proportion.

Rhinoplasty FAQ

How much time does a rhinoplasty require?

The range of surgical techniques in rhinoplasty is very wide. A basic cosmetic rhinoplasty to reduce the hump might take one hour to perform. A nose that requires a correction of the septum, narrowing the base, and changing the tip might take up to 3 hours. As a result, the fees for nose reshaping procedures vary accordingly.

Are there different rhinoplasty techniques?

There are two different techniques for rhinoplasty: the open technique and the closed technique. If the open rhinoplasty procedure is chosen, Dr. Nuveen will lift the skin of the nose to reshape the underyling structure. In closed rhinoplasty, an incision is made inside the nose through which Dr. Nuveen accesses and reshapes the underlying structure.

Most patients can benefit from the closed rhinoplasty procedure, but Dr. Nuveen can recommend the technique appropriate for your rhinoplasty goals. After the nose reshaping is complete, Dr. Nuveen closes the incision with sutures. The doctor will then apply a special packing in the nasal cavity, often in combination with a nasal splint.

What can I expect during recovery from nose reshaping?

After rhinoplasty, it's common to experience swelling and discomfort, which may be managed with medication for up to a week. In two weeks, you can return to your routine, but you should continue to avoid activities that put your nose as risk for impact or injury. Swelling should completely subside in three to six months, at which point you can fully appreciate the results of your rhinoplasty.

What is revision rhinoplasty?

A large portion of Cosmetic Surgery Affiliates’ practice is doing revisions or corrective surgery of other physician’s work. Dr. Nuveen takes great pride in making note that he has repaired over 40 major rhinoplasties from other physicians where the patients have had up to 11 nasal surgeries without cosmetic or functional success.

These corrections are the most difficult cases but they often result in the happiest patients which gives Dr. Nuveen a great deal of professional fulfillment.
