How long will pectoral implant surgery last?
Surgery usually requires 1-2 hours to complete. During this time, you will be given a local anesthetic with sedation or a general anesthetic. Either of these options will aid you in sleeping through the procedure and improving your overall comfort.
How will the surgery be performed?
For your surgery, Dr. Nuveen will begin by making incisions in your armpits, where they will be minimally visible. From here, he will tunnel carefully under the skin to reach the chest wall. Dr. Nuveen will then create a pocket for each implant within the chest wall. The implant will then be placed through the incision and located beneath the chest muscle, where it will be sutured into place with permanent sutures. He will then close the incisions and apply a surgical dressing.
How will I feel after surgery?
When you complete your pectoral implant surgery, your chest may feel tight or you may experience some swelling. The application of an ice pack, may help control swelling. Dr. Nuveen can also prescribe medication to manage discomfort during recovery.
While you will need to take caution when resuming your normal routine, you can begin light exercise after two weeks or so. Dr. Nuveen can tell you when additional components of your routine and more strenuous exercise are appropriate.
