Facial Implants
For many years now, the issue of loss of facial volume or plumpness has been a key feature of facial aging. Many options have been developed to re-establish facial fullness and more youthful features to the face, some temporary such as injectables, others permanent such as facial implants. The chin and cheeks are primary locations for the placement of facial implants to improve mid-facial fullness and chin prominence or jaw line definition.
The cheek implants are placed through very small incisions inside the mouth. They are slid in below the tissue of the cheek and secured permanently with a small screw. The procedure takes about 30 minutes to perform and is permanent. The chin implant is placed through a small incision just below the chin. This gives direct and safe access to the bone for placement of the implant and is secured permanently to the tissues of the chin. This procedure takes about 15 minutes to perform. The most significant risk related to this procedure is a 1-2 % infection rate due to the mouth bacteria and the need for approximately 2-4 weeks for the deep swelling to resolve completely.
