Sclerotherapy in Oklahoma City
Vein Treatment
Sclerotherapy is a treatment for visible veins on the legs. At Cosmetic Surgery Affiliates of Oklahoma City, we perform sclerotherapy for patients who are bothered by varicose veins or spider veins.
By undergoing this injection-based treatment, patients are able to minimize the appearance of these unsightly veins and improve how they feel about their appearance.
Treat Spider Veins and Varicose Veins
Sclerotherapy involves injections into visible veins on the legs. While this treatment cannot rid the legs of all visible veins indefinitely, it can reduce them and greatly improve your appearance. By injecting the sclerosing solution into the visible vein, the vein is forced to collapse and close.
Before sclerotherapy, you will have a consultation to determine the best treatment. Depending on your goals, medical history and other factors, we can determine if you are a suitable candidate for sclerotherapy. In some cases, the doctor may recommend laser vein treatments over sclerotherapy.
Common Questions About Sclerotherapy
How long does sclerotherapy treatment last?
Most sclerotherapy treatments can be completed in under an hour, though legs that exhibit a larger number of visible veins may take longer to treat. In some cases, more than one session may be necessary for treatment.
How is sclerotherapy completed?
Prior to your sclerotherapy treatment, the skin at the treatment site will be cleansed. No anesthetic will be necessary for this procedure.
Using a careful technique, Dr. Nuveen will inject the sclerosing agent into the visible vein. For every inch of visible vein, Dr. Nuveen will need to make one injection. After the injection treatment, the vein will collapse and disappear from view.
Will veins return?
While treated veins should not return, sclerotherapy is not a preventative treatment, so other veins could appear in the future.
What are the aftercare steps?
After your sclerotherapy treatment, surgical dressings and tape will be applied to the treatment sites. Dr. Nuveen will also likely apply compression garments to your legs, which will help hold their new shape. Though you will have to limit your activity for a time after sclerotherapy, Dr. Nuveen will encourage you to begin walking shortly after the treatment.
Are there any side effects to sclerotherapy?
Side effects from sclerotherapy are usually short-lived, but can include some temporary redness, bruising or cramping of the treatment area. These should dissipate within a few days. Please contact Dr. Nuveen if any side effect worsens.
